LAS VEGAS (Nov. 4) – As Sportsman star Mia Tedesco races in the
Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 7 event this weekend at The Strip at Las
Vegas Motor Speedway, she's confident in the knowledge she's already wrapped up
two championships.
And she has a good shot at a third.
Tedesco will drive the CARS Protection Plus/VP Racing Fuels car in
Super Gas and Super Comp this weekend, chasing the national championship in
Super Gas. She has already wrapped up the Division 3 Super Gas title as well as
the North Central Region championship with her CARS Protection Plus/Schepel
Motors/NGK/Lucas Oil Top Alcohol Dragster.
"This has been the best year I've ever had," Tedesco said.
"We've been very successful."
Tedesco leads the national points standings in Super Gas, and she
has already accumulated all the points she can, as racers can count seven
events toward that title.
"Other people have to win to pass me," Tedesco said.
"There's no pressure. It's a pretty good spot to be in. I’m done claiming
points, so my score is what it is. We're just believing that if it's going to
be, it's going to be. If not, it's not a year to be upset with; it's a year to
be proud of."
That's because she's won several races and two titles already.
"It's pretty cool for both classes," Tedesco said.
"Alcohol was back-to-back years, which is a huge accomplishment. It's been
awesome to be able to come back and defend that title and do well.
"The Super Gas title is something I've been working for for
three or four years now. It's been something we've been chasing. It wasn't the
goal coming into the year, but it certainly is pretty awesome to win in both
classes and have such a successful year so far – and it's not over yet."
Tedesco is racing in Las Vegas for the first time, though she earned
her Top Fuel license here a year ago.
"I was kind of familiar with the track, but not
completely," Tedesco said. "I really like it. The track's awesome, it
has an amazing view, it's a cool place to be in. I'm really enjoying it so
far."
